The visionary Jebel Ali Beach Development Project has received approval from Sheikh Hamdan, Crown Prince of Dubai. This ambitious initiative aims to create the longest open public beach in Dubai, significantly enhancing the emirate’s coastline and public recreational spaces.
Overview of the Project
Upon completion, the Jebel Ali Beach Development Project will offer a variety of features designed to cater to beachgoers of all ages and preferences. Key highlights include:
- 2 km open beach for swimming: A vast stretch of pristine beach where visitors can enjoy swimming and sunbathing.
- 2.5 km diving sports area: A dedicated space for diving enthusiasts.
- Walkway with viewing platforms: Scenic walkways providing stunning views of the beach and sea.
- Diverse recreational and service areas: Areas designed to offer various recreational activities and essential services.
The project will span a length of 6.6 km, covering a total area of 330 hectares. This development will feature integrated infrastructure such as:
- Two-lane road in each direction
- Parking for 1,000 vehicles
- 80 bicycle racks
- Cycling track
- 5 km running track
Enhancing Dubai’s Public Beaches
Sheikh Hamdan emphasized that the Jebel Ali Beach Development Project is part of a broader master plan to enhance public beaches across Dubai. The goal is to increase the total length of public beaches by 400%, which involves creating new beaches and improving existing ones. This initiative aligns with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which aims to provide citizens, residents, and visitors with multiple urban options, including beaches, open spaces, and recreational green areas, ultimately enhancing the quality of life in the city.
Unique Ecosystem and Conservation Efforts
Mattar Al Tayer, Commissioner General for Infrastructure, Urban Planning, and Well-Being Pillar, highlighted the environmental significance of the project. The area will feature a unique ecosystem due to the presence of mangrove trees, which will enhance the sanctuary and provide habitats for various living organisms. The design ensures optimal site utilization while preserving the ecosystem and enriching the visitor experience.
Three Distinct Locations
The Jebel Ali beach will be divided into three unique locations:
- The Pearl: Situated near the entrance of Palm Jebel Ali, this central hub will offer vibrant family beach activities, sports facilities, a swimming pool, kids’ play areas, a beach club, restaurants, cafes, shops, and a floating restaurant.
- The Sanctuary: Prioritizing environmental conservation, this area will be a haven for turtles, offering recreational and sports activities.
- The Nest: An educational and recreational destination focused on environmental conservation, located within the mangrove area. It will serve as an environmental center for studies and awareness of biodiversity, including turtle rehabilitation and care programs.
Connectivity and Safety Measures
A notable feature of the project is a 200-metre pedestrian bridge, the first of its kind in Dubai, linking the two sides of Al Mamzar Beach. This floating bridge will allow visitors to walk over the water, offering a unique experience without getting wet. Additionally, contracts have been awarded to develop two popular beaches: Al Mamzar and Jumeirah 1. Although some sections of the beaches will be closed during development, safety measures will be implemented to protect users.
Expanding Dubai’s Coastline
Last year, Dubai announced an ambitious plan to expand its coastline by 400%, increasing the length of public beaches from 21 km to 105 km. The city currently boasts eight public beaches, including Khor Al Mamzar, Al Mamzar Corniche, Jumeirah 1, Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3, Umm Suqeim 1, Umm Suqeim 2, and Jebel Ali, some of which were revamped in 2023. The Jebel Ali Beach Development Project marks a significant step in Dubai’s commitment to enhancing public recreational spaces and offering a distinguished, healthy environment for residents and visitors alike.
